The RIMBA ECOLODGE is an eco friendly lodge that allows tourists to experience the heart of the Sumatran jungle whilst being able to enjoy the white sandy beaches facing the Indian Ocean. The aim of the Rimba Ecolodge is to allow tourists to discover the local flora and fauna of West Sumatra and to become familiar with the local environmental issues through jungle treks and visits to the surrounding islands. The Rimba Ecolodge also intends to contribute to the development of the local economy through the creation of new jobs, partnerships (food, cultural…) and the promotion of local handicrafts.
Our land is located in the Western Province of Sumatra and is part of Sungai Pisang village. It takes around 1h30mins to access our site from Padang city, the administrative capital of the province which owns an international airport

The restaurant
Following the example of the huts, our restaurant is built on concrete stilts, using the same materials for the structure as for the furniture. It is set as a large covered terrace that faces the Indian Ocean. On top of the usual amenities, our restaurant has 2 small lounges, a hammock, a library, a collection of board games (chess, cards, dominoes, scrabble…) and a shop.We cook Indonesian and local dishes served with rice and accompanied by vegetables, tofu, seafood, chicken, eggs, noodles, tropical fruits… The restaurant offers a fixed menu for lunch and dinner which is always made up of several dishes served separately following the Indonesian tradition. This way of serving is ideal for vegetarians and satisfies everyone’s tastes. And if you feel like it, we would love to share with you an evening on the beach, around the fire, guitar in hand, grilled fish on the plate…!
The breakfast is served from 7.30 am to 11.00 am. Sweet or salty you have the choice :
Pancakes (banana-choco, homemade mango jam or lemon-sugar)
OR Eggs and toast (fried, scrambled, omelette)
AND Fruit juice AND Tea OR coffee
Lunch – served from 1.00 pm &Dinner – served from 7.30 pm.
Thermos flasks of hot water, tea, coffee as well as a water canister are available at will. The water comes from the filling stations of Bungus or the village of Sungai Pisang using a reverse osmosis filtration system to purify water.
Our restaurant also offers a large selection of drinks (beers, sodas, fruit juices, cappuccino…) and sweet or salty snacks (french fries, local crisps, banana donuts…).
Here, many activities await you !
✔ For relaxation fans, you can bask without remorse on the 300 meters of beach bordering the Rimba Ecolodge or settle yourself comfortably in a hammock or on a deck-chair for a long digestive nap ! After this well-deserved rest, you will be able to take a dip in the Indian Ocean or laze in the company of fish with your snorkel gear !
✔ For the fearless one, you have the possibilty to enter into the beautiful jungle adjacent to our site to watch (if you’re lucky) the surrounding wildlife. A team member will guide you (even if you’re feeling like Indiana Jones, we wouldn’t want to risk you getting lost in the forest !).
✔ For the curious one, you can accompany the team members when they have to go food shopping in the village of Sungai Pisang. In this way, you will discover the daily life of the inhabitants of a small fishing village that is still very traditional and moves in rhythm with the sun.
✔ For the sports enthusiasts,you will be able to face the Rimba team on our beach volleyball field :) Frisbee and beach rackets are also available.
✔ For those who have sea-legs, our traditional canoe is available to visit the beaches around or for initiating yourself to catching fish in the traditional Indonesian way.
You will also find card games, chess and other board games (scrabble, Time’s up, mikado, dice, dominoes…) au restaurant, as well as a wide selection of books for travellers in need of reading, to consult on nearby sites or to exchange with one of yours !
If the opportunity arises, you will get the possibility to take part in our actions implemented in the framework of the Rimba Association (coral rehabilitation, distribution of school materials to the villages…),
